Assignment Analyzes the future impact of a social problem of your choice

The results of our work throughout the course will be compiled in this final paper. We will discuss in greater detail the scope of a social problem, a major theoretical idea that can be applied to the social problem, and our own analysis of how this social problem might be solved now that we have identified and clarified the nature of social problems and examined two key organisations that address a social problem.

Finding one of the main theoretical views we have discussed this session will be a key component of this task. The functionalist, conflict, and symbolic interaction approaches are the three main ones. As noted in our materials, there are various theoretical stances that we can choose to take as well. Finding the theoretical perspective that best fits our selected social topic of study will require a thorough comprehension of these many theoretical points of view.

Instructions:

Complete a 6–8 page final paper (excluding the title and reference pages) in which you analyse the potential effects of a social issue of your choice. Please note that this issue must be DIFFERENT from the social issue you chose for your first assignment. 1. The extent of this social issue during the previous 30 to 50 years. (Note: To describe the size of this issue, you must use past data.)

2. Your unique insight on how you believe the social issue should be addressed better. Please discuss in this analysis what you believe needs to be done to address this societal issue. Instead of largely relying on sources for this section, as a sociologist, use your own point of view and voice.

3. Identify four concepts from our readings or course materials that are relevant to the social issue you have chosen, and then explain how they can improve our understanding of the issue you are addressing. As discussed in our readings and resources, concepts include notions like stratification, race, sexism, and others (NOTE: these are simply examples of concepts; they may NOT apply to your topic; you must choose concepts that apply to your own topic). 4. Describe one sociological theory from our readings or resources that pertains to the social issue you have chosen, and then explain how this theory advances our understanding of the issue you are addressing. As noted in our readings and materials, sociological theories include functionalism, conflict theory, feminist theory, symbolic interactionism, and others.
