1. Culture shock is “the personal disorientation [felt] when experiencing an unfamiliar way of life (Macionis 38). The four stages of culture shock that sociologists commonly accept are the honeymoon stage, the frustration stage, the adjustment stage, and acceptance stage. The honeymoon stage refers to when everything is exciting and unfamiliar, like when eating a new type of food thrills a person. The frustration stage occurs when homesickness strikes and when annoyance or disillusionment start to change the visitor’s views. During the adjustment stage, people begin feeling like they can fit into this new area, leaving behind the frustration that they felt before.
