Discussion 2 (10 points)
Post a response to one of the questions listed below. Be sure to follow the discussion
rubric guidelines found in the NURS 300 syllabus, Appendix B. I will also provide the rubric below. Please note the due dates for postings on the NURS 300 calendar. It is important to know that as the faculty member, I am sensitive to our student’s busy schedules with family, work, and school. There are due dates for postings, created to allow productive discussions between students in this course. If students ever feel that meeting a due date creates a significant challenge for them, please let the faculty member know and we will discuss an alternative plan. If students do not contact the faculty member ahead of the due date to arrange alternative plans, the grading criteria for late submissions will be followed.)
After the student completes their initial posting, and has responded to at least two other students, the student will self-grade their discussion using the discussion quiz, located within NURS 300 Module 6 content area. The student’s self grade will be reviewed by the course instructor for accuracy, and adjusted as needed.
You may choose to respond to one of the questions below: NURS 300B Nursing Novice and Expert Thinking Discussion
1. Question 1:
* Describe the importance of critical thinking.
* List at least 4 ways in which novice thinking and expert thinking different.
* Give an example that illustrates each.
2. Question 2:
* Describe what is meant by the statement, “The Nursing Process is Cyclic.” Give examples of your cyclic use of the nursing process.
3) Just for you!
Consider completing Self-Assessment: Developing Sound Clinical Judgment (Box 11-9 on page 256 of the Black text). Make a checklist to consciously work on improving in clinical judgment. If you can remember, repeat exercise when you graduate with your BSN and see what changes (if any) have occurred.
4) Reminder that the Ethical Dilemma Paper is due in the near future (please check NURS 300 calendar for due date). Please use this time to prepare for this assignment. Reminder, there is an Ethical Dilemma Paper Assignment Review Session Video available to students in Module 5, to help students prepare for this assignment.
Again, as students create their Ethical Dilemma Paper, they have an opportunity for a draft review of their paper. This is totally optional. If they would like a draft review of their paper, they need to please place the rough draft of their paper in the Ethical Dilemma Paper Draft Assignment Dropbox by the due date on the NURS 300 calendar. Again, this is totally optional, but most students who use the draft review resource tend to be more satisfied with the end result of their paper. The student’s paper does not have to be fully developed to be submitted. A rough draft may be submitted. Also, the rough draft of the paper will not be evaluated for APA style or writing quality – as students may connect with the SMSU Writing Center, or Tutor.com, for that. The draft review will give students general guidance for the content of their paper. It is optional for students to request a draft review of their Ethical Dilemma Paper.
5) Again – Upcoming Standards of Professional Nursing Practice Assignment – Opportunity to Collaborate in Teams for this assignment at the end of the semester.
I will make note of this again this week. Students will have the option to work alone or collaborate as teams for the Standards of Professional Nursing Practice Assignment that will be due Week 14 in NURS 300. Students have started to get to know each other over the past three weeks of NURS 300. They will continue to get to know each other throughout the remainder of NURS 300. If they would like to collaborate together as a team, they may start creating teams. I will give them until the end of Week 8 in NURS 300 to create teams for this assignment.
To learn more about this assignment, and the opportunity to collaborate as teams, please see the Standards of Professional Nursing Practice Resource Module provided in the NURS 300 table of contents (between Module 13 and Module 14).
Here is information regarding team creation.
Create a team of no more than 5 students (2-5 students).
Let faculty member know the members of the team prior to the end of Week 8.
View the Mustang Nursing Learning Team Compact Review Video found in the Standards of Professional Nursing Practice Resource Module provided in the NURS 300 table of contents (between Module 13 and Module 14).
The teams must complete a Mustang Nursing Learning Team Compact form and provide the faculty member with this form by the end of Week 8 (for convenience, the Mustang Nursing Learning Team Compact form and assignment dropbox will be available in the NURS 300 modules each week through Module 8).
These teams will not be changed following submission of team members and the Mustang Nursing Learning Team Compact.
Each member of the team will complete a Mustang Nursing Learning Team Evaluation form upon completion and submission of the Standards of Professional Nursing Practice Assignment during Week 14. No grade will be granted until all members of the team have submitted the Mustang Nursing Learning Team Evaluation. NURS 300B Nursing Novice and Expert Thinking Discussion
