NURS 6521N Week 10 Discussion
Week 10: Women’s and Men’s Health/Infections and Hematologic Systems, Part II
Blood or other bodily fluids can be directly contaminated with bacteria or viruses, which can then spread, or infections can be spread indirectly through the use of vectors. What comes to mind when you think of infections and the hematologic system?
Infections that affect the hematologic system include infectious diseases like malaria, dengue fever, or other hemorrhagic fevers. But hematologic disorders, like anemia or problems with blood clotting factors, can also be harmful to a patient’s health and well-being. As an advanced practice nurse, you will be working to improve patient-centered approaches for safe, effective care, and you will need to understand the various pharmacotherapeutics used to treat infections and hematologic system disorders.
This week, you will examine infections and hematologic disorders, as well as the types of drugs used to treat aspects of these disorders or health systems.
NURS 6521N Week 10 Discussion Learning Objectives
Students will:
- Evaluate patients for treatment of complex health issues
- Evaluate patients for treatment of infections
- Evaluate patients for treatment of hematologic disorders
- Analyze patient education strategies for the management and treatment of complex comorbidities

By Day 6 of Week 10
Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses from Week 9 and respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days who were assigned a different patient case study, and provide recommendations for alternative drug treatments to address the patient’s pathophysiology. Be specific and provide examples.
