Antimicrobial drugs, which serve to kill or prevent the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and protozoans, are crucial components in the treatment of many bacterial illnesses. Prior to the discovery of antimicrobial medicines, individuals with bacterial illnesses had few treatment choices. Treatment often ended in amputation of limbs or even death for many patients.
