- 250 words
Imagine that you are the director of a program that is responsible for overseeing the quality of services being delivered to victims of domestic violence.
In this scenario, you have noticed that burnout, low motivation, or social loafing is an issue in your program.
Use at least one psychological theory to explain how burnout, low motivation, or social loafing may come about. Use at least one journal article to make your case about how you can address the issue. Social Loafing Motivation and Burnout
Examples of pyschological theories : Drive Reduction Model, Self Regulation Theory, Goal Settting Theory, Self determination theory, Expectancy theory, cognitive dissonance theory, Shared decision making

Discussion 1: Social Facilitation, Social Inhibition, and Social Loafing
You might remember that Triplett (1898) discovered that having spectators during a bicycle race improved individual performance. Social facilitation is the term for this (Williams, Harkins, & Karau, 2007). However, occasionally having other people around might hinder performance, a phenomenon known as social inhibition (Crisp & Turner, 2007). Similar to the former, social loafing can happen when a person’s performance within a group declines as a result of their reliance on other group members (Crisp & Turner, 2007).
Review the media programme from Week 5: The Virtual Office in preparation for this discussion.Determine which fictional characters in the media exhibited social facilitation, social inhibition, and social loafing. Social Loafing Motivation and Burnout
With these thoughts in mind:
Post by Day 3 a description of the characters in the media program demonstrating social loafing, social inhibition, and social facilitation. Explain how you identified them. Then, select one of the characters and, using the current literature, explain two ways you might mitigate their behavior.

Discussion 2: Impact of Group Behavior
After group interaction, a process known as “group polarisation” can take place in which a group’s original attitude (for example, “Our company is the best at providing Service B in this community”) shifts to a more extreme one (for example, “Our company is the best at providing Service B in this entire region”). Group polarisation may be more frequent when the topic at hand is viewed as particularly “important” (Crisp & Turner, 2007, p. 169). Social Loafing Motivation and Burnout
Groupthink, which is seen as a more extreme form of group polarisation, refers to a lack of adaptability in group thinking, which can lower group productivity. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded in midair in 1986, it was the clearest example of this ever. Evidence in this instance points to groupthink as having a significant impact on the occurrence.
Review this week’s learning resources in preparation for our discussion. Pay close attention to how groupthink and polarisation affect individuals. Additionally, look into alternatives to groupthink and group polarisation using the Walden Library, then choose an article that discusses one.
With these thoughts in mind:
Post by Day 4 a description of a situation in which you experienced or observed negative consequences resulting from groupthink or group polarization. Then describe two consequences as a result of groupthink or group polarization in your example. Finally, using an article from the current literature, explain how one alternative to groupthink or group polarization could have been used in that situation. Social Loafing Motivation and Burnout
