NUR-514 Topic 3 DQ 1
Description:
Describe an organizational change model that can be used in a dynamic health care environment. Based on this model, how is organizational change is managed? What role do stakeholders play during organizational change?
Example Topic 3 DQ 1
An organizational change model that can be used in a dynamic health care environment is Lewin’s Change Model. Organizational change is managed in this model by using three stages. The first stage is the unfreezing stage. During this stage, practices that need improvement and understanding the current practices and why they are completed this way. It is also the time to identify “any barriers that would prevent changes.” (El-shafy, Zapke, Sargeant, Prince & Christopherson 2019). Once this stage is completed, the second phase of Lewin’s Change Model can begin.
The second stage is the moving stage. Using the motivation from the previous stage, leaders can keep the change in motion. This stage allows leaders to work towards the goal of the change. The final stage of the model is the refreezing stage. The leader uses positive reinforcement to prevent staff from going back to the old ways of doing things. This promotes the continuing use of the change to improve the workplace. An example of this on my current unit is the goal of decreasing telemetry calls for leads off a patient.
The leaders decided that the calls were time consuming and would prevent the monitors from being able to call during an emergency. The leaders discussed this problem with staff of both the unit and telemetry and obtained processes for each unit and telemetry units. This unfreezing stage was able to take place. The leaders took the obtained information and created a change that would decrease the amount of calls for both telemetry and the unit. The leaders then presented the change that would occur and thus began the moving stage.
Nurses and technicians worked together to change the telemetry stickers on each patient at noon and midnight. Batteries were also to be changed once per shift by nine in the morning and nine at night. These changes in the moving stage have then undergone the refreezing state. The new employees are learning this process as part of the daily tasks. The leaders provided positive reinforcement every time the goal was met for the telemetry calls. This process is now completed and working well to decrease telemetry calls.
Stakeholders play a supportive role during organizational change. The stakeholders may sometimes have opinions or goals of their own. Stakeholders can relay the goals they would like to the leaders who then can begin a process for organizational change. The leaders can use Lewin’s Change Model to achieve these goals set by the stakeholders.

Description:
You have been selected to serve on a community outreach committee within your state’s nursing organization. The committee includes registered nurses of different specialties. At your first meeting, it becomes evident that not everyone is in agreement with a recent position statement about the role of spiritual care, with some members arguing they will no longer support the committee if the position statement is not revised or reversed. As a nurse leader and change agent, how would you approach the committee? How could you draw from change theory to address these concerns and encourage collaboration on the committee?

Healthcare policy is vital to healthcare organizations since it helps in the planning processes of healthcare organizations. The primary role of healthcare policies is to provide a leadership structure whereby an institution allocates adequate healthcare resources to patients. Healthcare policies also offer an environment whereby an organization ensures clinicians’ continued improvement of medical practices and skills.
Policies usually offer guidelines for healthcare professionals to work effectively, use medical knowledge to solve complex problems, and implement evidence-based practices when caring for patients (Mosadeghrad, 2014). Secondly, healthcare policies affect patient care by ensuring patients receive optimum care. It acts as a manual that dictates clinicians’ behaviors and actions and helps promote patients’ safety and well-being when accessing medical services.
Mosadeghrad (2014) contends that healthcare policies affect cost-effective quality care by championing affordable medical services for patients. Healthcare professionals use healthcare policies to influence changes in healthcare systems by making healthcare resources easily accessible and lowering the medical costs for patients.
Nurse leaders are active in how medical services are disseminated to patients. This is possible by a nurse leader examining some of the weaknesses facing medical centers and understanding some of the problems patients face when accessing medical services. Secondly, nurse leaders can take measures that enhance the safety of patients by reducing medical errors to prevent readmissions of patients and that patients do not use many resources when getting quality healthcare services (Androus, 2021). Androus (2016) further elicits that when addressing healthcare costs, a nurse leader looks at strategies to help hospitals offer quality medical services at low prices. Therefore, acting as strong pillars in advocating quality care of patients.

Sep 1-5,
Explain the role of the nurse leaders in implementing innovative care models. Explain how innovative modes of care affect collaboration between advanced registered nurses and other stakeholders in the industry.
EXAMPLE APPROACH
The nurse leader can be a great catalyst for change. The advanced practice nurse leaders can directly impact patient care by helping to lead the implementation of innovative care models. Nurse leaders can take charge and be the ones that implement the chosen care model directly on the floor with direct patient care. They are able to collaborate with the bedside nurses to help disseminate information and provide education to the staff to help make the transition as seamless as possible.
The nurse leader can motivate and get the rest of the staff on board with the new change. This will help increase active participation in the change. The nurse leader can not only help initiate the change they will also be directly involved with the implementation of the change. They are able to assess the effectiveness of the change and collaborate with the other staff members on how to modify the care model to make it more effective and increase the quality of patient care.
The nurse leader is a great liaison between all the parties involved in changing how patient care is implemented. They can work with management as well as the bedside staff to help propose and implement change. The nurse leader has experience and expertise that are valuable assets that can be used in a multitude of settings.
As a nurse leader the advanced registered nurse gain the respect and trust of the multidisciplinary team and within the corporation/organization that allows them to effectively collaborate and communicate with a variety of people. They are able to maneuver and navigate the clinical as well as political aspects of healthcare and meld the two together to help support better quality patient care. By having these trusted relationships with different people evolved in the continuum of patient care the nurse leader has a vast amount of resources to draw from and include in the process of elevating patient care in many different areas.
